Precision 3D Scanning for Digital Reconstruction
We transform physical objects into high-precision digital CAD data. From complex mechanical components to organic forms, we provide the essential foundation for your reverse engineering projects in Vienna.
3D scanning is the critical first step in any modern reverse engineering workflow. When original technical drawings are missing or a component has shifted its original form due to wear and tear, digital capture offers the only reliable method to create an exact replica or an optimized redesign. In our Vienna workshop, we employ advanced optical procedures to capture surface structures and geometries with a precision of up to 0.2 mm.
Our service is designed for clients who cannot afford to waste time on manual measurements of complex radii or organic curves. Instead of spending hours with calipers and gauges, we provide a complete point cloud or a direct mesh model. This serves as a professional base for further construction in software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Rhino. We understand the rigorous requirements of industrial tolerances and deliver data that is ready for production.
The 3D Scanning Workflow
Object Analysis & Preparation
We analyze the material properties of your object. Since shiny or transparent surfaces refract light and cause errors, we prepare them using a temporary, residue-free matting spray to ensure seamless and complete data capture.
Systematic Scanning Process
Using our high-resolution scanners, we capture the object from multiple angles. We set reference points to guarantee absolute dimensional accuracy and ensure that no geometric gaps occur in the resulting digital model.
Data Processing & Mesh Cleaning
The raw point cloud is converted into a closed surface (STL mesh). We remove noise and artifacts from the scan, fill small holes, and smooth out areas that are not relevant to the technical function of the part.
Data Delivery & Validation
You receive the final files in your preferred format. If required, we compare the digital dimensions with your physical reference values to confirm compliance with the agreed tolerance of 0.2 mm.
Who is our 3D Scanning service for?
Our services are specifically tailored to the needs of engineers and creative professionals. Engineers utilize our scans for the reverse engineering of spare parts where CAD data no longer exists. In industrial settings, this is often the only way to maintain machinery from the 1980s or 90s. We help analyze wear parts and optimize them digitally before they are manufactured using FDM or SLA printing.
Architects and product designers use scanning to transfer existing spaces or physical models into the digital realm. When a haptic model has been created from clay or foam, we convert it into a precise digital format for series production or presentation. Additionally, for the creation of custom-fit housings for electronic components, the scanning process is essential to eliminate collisions with existing internal parts.
How the collaboration works
The process typically begins with a detailed consultation regarding the required accuracy. A scan for a visual mockup requires a different resolution than a scan for a high-precision fit within a machine. After receiving the object at our workshop in the Neubau district, we perform an initial inspection. We check if the object is stable and identify areas that are difficult to access, such as deep bores or narrow slots, discussing alternative solutions with you.
During the scanning process, we document the alignment of the object. The subsequent software processing is the most time-intensive phase: this is where millions of individual points are transformed into a coherent surface. We ensure that the topological properties of the object are preserved, allowing you to import the file into your CAD environment without extensive manual corrections.
What you should prepare as a client
To accelerate the process, we ask that you deliver the object in a clean condition. Heavy contamination or oil residues can interfere with optical capture. If the object is very large or requires special handling (e.g., extreme fragility), please inform us in advance so we can prepare the appropriate fixtures.
It is particularly important to define the critical dimensions. If specific areas of the object require extremely high precision, please mark them for us. This allows us to increase the scan density in those zones while scanning less critical areas faster, which reduces the overall cost for you. Please ensure that all movable parts of the object are fixed in the desired position.
The Result: What you receive from us
Upon completion of the project, we provide the data digitally. By default, we deliver an STL file representing a precise surface model. Upon request, we can also provide OBJ files or specific point cloud exports. Should you have additionally booked our 3D modeling service, you will receive a parametric STEP file that is fully editable.
Along with the data, you receive a brief report on the steps taken and the confirmed dimensional accuracy. If the object was matted for the scan, it will be professionally cleaned before being returned. We ensure that the digital data is prepared so that it can be used directly for 3D printing or CNC machining without further geometry correction.
Timelines and Lead Times
The actual scanning time depends heavily on the complexity and the desired resolution. A simple small part can be captured within a few hours, while complex geometries with high detail may take several hours. Subsequent data processing and cleaning typically take 1 to 2 business days.
According to our business rules, the standard lead time for prototypes and scans is approximately 5 business days from the order date. In urgent cases, we offer express processing, which incurs a surcharge of 50% of the service fee. We communicate the binding delivery date individually after inspecting the object.
Exclusions: What is NOT included
Our scanning service covers the digital capture of geometry. The conversion of a mesh model (STL) into a fully parametric CAD model (STEP/IGES) is a separate 3D modeling service and is billed based on hourly effort. We assume no liability for the structural integrity of parts manufactured based on scans unless we have been explicitly commissioned for technical validation.
We refuse to scan objects that violate our safety policies. This includes weapons, weapon parts, or medical implants that require special certification. Similarly, we do not perform scans of objects intended to copy copyright-protected designs without the consent of the rights holder. Responsibility for the rights to the physical template lies solely with the customer.
Pricing and VAT
The costs for 3D scanning are composed of preparation time, scan duration, and the effort required for data cleaning. We distinguish between simple objects (up to 10 cm) and complex geometries requiring intensive processing. All prices include the statutory VAT of 20%.
For B2B customers, we issue invoices showing the net amount. Payment is due within 14 days of invoicing according to our guidelines. For first-time orders, we require a deposit of 30% to reserve resources in our workshop. The minimum order value for scanning projects is 25 €.

Frequently Asked Questions about Scanning
We work with a standard tolerance of 0.2 mm. This is entirely sufficient for most reverse engineering tasks and prototype construction. Should you require extremely tighter tolerances, we evaluate on a case-by-case basis whether this is achievable with our equipment.
Yes, we provide a watertight STL file that can be loaded directly into any slicing software. However, for technical parts, we recommend a brief check of the wall thicknesses before starting the print.
Your object remains your property. After the scanning process and data validation, you can either pick it up at our workshop in Vienna or we can ship it back to you for an additional fee.
Our standard setup is optimized for objects that fit within our workshop. For very large components, please contact us via the Contact page to check if segmented capture is possible.
