The foundation of every successful 3D print is a flawless digital model. Often, ambitious projects fail not because of the hardware, but due to inadequate geometry that is either unprintable or fails to meet the required mechanical properties. In our Vienna workshop, we bridge the gap between the initial vision and the finished component through systematic 3D modeling that precisely combines aesthetic and functional requirements.

Our approach is interdisciplinary: we do not look at the pure shape alone, but analyze the subsequent manufacturing method. Whether a part is to be produced using FDM for maximum stability or SLA printing for the highest level of detail, this influences the modeling phase from the start. By considering material shrinkage, wall thicknesses, and support structures, we ensure that your digital design can move directly into production without costly iteration loops.

The Path from Concept to Digital Twin

01. Analysis & Briefing

We review your documentation—be it PDF drawings, hand-drawn sketches, or photographs. In this step, we clarify the functional requirements, the desired tolerances, and the intended use of the object.

02. Rough Draft (Blocking)

First, we create a basic geometry to validate proportions and the spatial arrangement of components. You receive initial insights into the model to make fundamental adjustments before the detailed work begins.

03. Detailing & Optimization

We develop precise dimensions, adding threads, recesses, and complex curves. Simultaneously, we optimize the model for printability (Design for Additive Manufacturing) to save material and increase stability.

04. Finalization & Export

After your final approval, we create the production-ready files. You receive the models in standard formats such as STL or STEP, which can be used immediately for 3D printing or further technical documentation.

Who We Provide 3D Modeling For

Our services are aimed at a wide range of users who have the highest demands for the accuracy of their digital data. Engineers and startups use our expertise primarily for the rapid development of functional prototypes where mechanical fit is the priority. This often involves simulating complex assemblies before an expensive tool mold is created for series production.

Architects and designers, on the other hand, appreciate our ability to create organic shapes or precise scale models that allow for a physical representation of their designs. Craft businesses requiring spare parts for machinery for which digital plans no longer exist also benefit from our service. We reconstruct the geometry based on the worn original part and optimize it if necessary for a longer service life.

Detailed Collaboration Process

Collaboration begins with a detailed technical alignment. We recommend providing all available information to avoid misunderstandings. Once the project has started, we work in a transparent process. For complex projects, we use milestones: we send you screenshots or simple test prints of critical interfaces to check the fit before the entire model is finalized.

Communication takes place primarily via email or telephone, although we offer short coordination meetings in our Vienna workshop if required. We place great value on clean documentation of changes, so you can track at any time which adjustments were made to the original sketch to ensure technical feasibility.

What to Prepare for the Start

To make the modeling process efficient and keep costs low, we ask you to provide the following documents:

  • Dimensional Sketches: Hand drawings with the most important outer dimensions, hole diameters, and wall thicknesses.
  • Reference Images: Photos from different perspectives if a physical prototype already exists.
  • Material Specifications: Information about which material the part should be printed in later (e.g., ABS for heat resistance or Resin for optics).
  • Functional Description: A short explanation of which forces act on the part or which other components border the model.

The Result: What You Receive From Us

Upon completion of the modeling, we provide you with a complete package containing all data necessary for production. This usually includes the final STL file for the slicer as well as a STEP file, which is essential for later changes in CAD programs. We ensure that the files are "watertight" (manifold), meaning there are no holes in the geometry that could disrupt the printing process.

Additionally, you receive short documentation regarding the optimizations made. If you commission the print directly from us, the file is already perfectly tuned to our machines. The handover of files takes place after full payment of the modeling service.

Timelines and Framework

The duration of the modeling depends heavily on the complexity of the object. Simple technical parts can often be completed within 24 to 48 hours. Complex assemblies with many dependencies require more intensive processing, usually between 3 and 7 working days. We strive for a fast iteration rate so that your project is not slowed down by long waiting times.

Please note that the pure modeling time does not include the subsequent printing time. The average time for a prototype, including printing, is about 3 days at our facility, provided the modeling is already complete. For urgent deadlines, we offer prioritization against a corresponding surcharge, as described in our Terms and Conditions.

What is NOT Included in Modeling

To create a clear demarcation of services, we point out that pure 3D modeling does not include static calculations (FEM analysis) or certification of the components. We optimize the design for printability and geometric correctness, but we assume no liability for structural integrity under extreme load conditions unless detailed technical specifications are provided.

Likewise, the creation of complex textures for high-end renderings (e.g., for marketing animations) is not part of this technical service. We focus on production-relevant geometry. The physical manufacture of the part is a separate service that can be booked via our Services overview.

Pricing and VAT

The billing for 3D modeling is based on an hourly rate. This allows for a fair and transparent calculation, as every order has an individual complexity. The price per hour includes the statutory Austrian VAT of 20%. For B2B customers, the VAT is shown on the invoice so that it can be claimed within the framework of input tax deduction.

The final cost is derived from the estimated time duration multiplied by the hourly rate. We inform you in advance about the estimated effort and keep you updated on any deviations. A detailed breakdown of cost factors can be found in our guide on Understanding 3D Printing Costs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Modeling

In which formats do you deliver the models?

We standardly deliver STL files for direct 3D printing as well as STEP files, which are the industry standard for CAD data and can be opened and edited in almost any professional software.

Can you also optimize existing models?

Yes, we handle the revision of existing files to make them printable or to incorporate functional improvements. This is often more efficient than a complete recreation.

How do you handle the confidentiality of my designs?

All data transmitted to us is treated with strict confidentiality. Upon request, we sign a separate Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before the project starts to protect your intellectual property rights.

What happens if the model does not fit perfectly after the first print?

Despite the highest precision, minimal deviations can occur with complex fits. In such a case, we adjust the model within the framework of the original agreement to achieve the perfect fit.

If you are ready to transfer your project into the digital world, we are at your disposal in Vienna. Whether it is a single spare part or a complex assembly—we provide the technical foundation for your success. Contact us for a non-binding offer.
